ETHAN KLEIN
(City Boy Records, Housetown Recordings, String Theory Recordings, Red Door)
As one of the most symbiotic DJs in the Space City, Ethan Klein touches the gamut of funky house, techno, deep house, electro, 80’s and funk when he spins. As many talented DJs do, 35 year-old Ethan has evolved into a choice producer and in 1998 signed to Eddie"Flashin'" Fowlkes' then Detroit-based label, City Boy Records.
Ethan is backed by 18 years of DJing, with residencies at Kamelyon Club in Houston (1992-94) and Chupa in Phoenix, Arizona (1995-96) alongside Eddie Amador and Bomb Shelter DJ Emile (Swell Records). He has spun with the likes of Richie Hawtin, Juan Atkins, Stacy Pullen, Frankie Bones, Freddy Fresh, D-Wynn, Spun, DJ Dan, Julius Papp, Doc Martin, Mark E. Quark and Joey Beltram, just to name a few.
In 1996, Ethan returned to Houston and became a resident DJ and major player for SDC, a collective of DJs, producers, promoters and visionaries that erected a legacy with a weekly club night at Orbit Room. Ethan's trademark sound has garnered attention throughout his extensive career. Among his numerous accolades, Ethan has performed at the Houston Music Poll Showcase (1996, 2001, 2003), Annual Texas Electronic Festival (1997,1998), Houston Press Music Awards Showcase (1998, 2001, 2003 &2005), has been nominated for the Houston Scene Awards (1997), and was runner-up for Best DJ (1998) at the local alternative newsweekly, Public News. And, even much of the country has witnessed Ethan's mixing skills and turntable styles. His travels have taken him to San Diego, San Francisco (including Spundae, and Nakita, 1015 Folsom) Colorado to Ohio and was invited in 2002 to play one of the largest festivals in the world, The Detroit Electronic Music Festival, which Ethan feels was an honor to be invited to experience. The festival estimated 1.7 million people and only 60 djs from around the world were invited to play. "The rush of being surrounded by such amazing talent was impossible to put into words. The crowd was so intense. It was the best djing experience in my life."
In 2003, Ethan teamed up with Vic Vegas and Mr. Bristle aka Yo Se'(Dust Traxx, Riviera, Gossip, and AV8) in the studio. This production team has worked thus far on a 4 track ep that has gotten play from Mark Farina, Rick Preston, Jay-J and Jon Lemmon(Viva Recordings). Two of the tracks, "Heartbreaker" and "St. Croix" were just picked up by local up and coming record label Housetown records headed by DJ Chello. "HeartBreaker" is remixed by Rick Preston and should be out in December of 2005.
Currently, Ethan holds down a residency in Houston at The Red Door on Saturdays the longest running bar/club in the growing Mid-Town area.
